Tour Our Studio

Construction of Hoki Dental commenced the day after we came out of our first lock-down back in 2020. On November 19 of the same year, we opened our doors to the public.

While it took less than 6 months to build, Hoki Dental's conception took nearly 30 years to refine. In essence, our vision was to create a warm and welcoming environment that supports the delivery of cutting-edge digitally-guided dentistry.

Here are just a few features our studio possesses that help enhance your comfort, care and confidence...

Certified DSD Clinic

Of everything that makes your care with us here at Hoki Dental uniquely special, the light that shines brightest is the fact that we're a certified DSD Clinic.

Now in case you've never heard of DSD before, DSD stands for Digital Smile Design which is considered the most advanced, patient-centred approach to designing and delivering naturally beautiful, functionally durable smile transformations.

With only 103 DSD Clinics in the world, we're a proud member of an exclusive group of hand-selected international practices  that share a passion for combining dentistry, aesthetics, and technology in our pursuit of excellence harnessing the DSD Concept.

That all sounds great, but what does this actually mean for you?

In a nutshell, if you're embarrassed to smile or you're struggling with broken, worn or missing teeth, when you entrust your care with us, you'll be empowered by a collaborative team of smile-design specialists harnessing state-of-the-art technologies to design and deliver a naturally beautiful smile that perfectly harmonises with your face. What's more, with our unique smile-test drive process,  you're empowered as the co-author of your final smile which in turn ensures you’ll wear your ultimate smile with pride and confidence.

Dedicated Photo Studio

One question we get asked all the time is: "Why on Earth does a dental practice need a dedicated photo studio?" And I guess that's a fair question. After all, you go to a dentist to get your teeth fixed, not get your photo taken, right?

However, what most people don't understand is how intimately your face and your smile are connected to one another. In order for a smile to look naturally beautiful , it needs to balance harmoniously with your unique set of facial features.

So when ever a patient comes in wanting us to enhance their smile, a critical first step towards designing a naturally balanced smile is to take a series of key facial photos and video. This is what we call facially driven smile design and it's the critical key to enjoying a confidence-boosting smile.

Which is why we have a dedicated photo studio - to ensure you receive a smile that you're whole-heartedly proud to share with the world.

3D-Xray

While conventional dental x-rays are helpful in diagnosing routine conditions like tooth decay and abscesses, there are many times when we need much greater detail to diagnose correctly, plan meticulously, and treat precisely.

To facilitate the delivery of comprehensive care (e.g. dental implants, complex root-fillings and accelerated tooth movement) we invested six-figures in a CBCT unit. In essence, our CBCT unit is like a CAT-scan that takes extremely accurate three-dimensional images of not only your teeth and jaws, but also your jaw joints, your sinuses and your upper airways.

In short, our CBCT unit is an incredibly powerful tool that dramatically enhances the accuracy of our diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Intra-Oral Scanner

Pivotal to our digital workflows is our iTero intra-oral scanner. Harnessing the power of a radiation-free laser, in less then three minutes our iTero scanner generates a digitally perfect 3D model of your teeth and gums that we can then use to quickly and easily manufacture all sorts of dental appliances.

The obvious advantage of our digital scanner is that it completely eliminates the need to take unpleasant gooey, gag-inducing impressions which can be inaccurate, damaged or lost.

However, our iTero's power extends way beyond simply taking digital "moulds" of your teeth.

Within minutes of taking your scan, you'll instantly be able to see your mouth in 3D. Not only does this greatly enhance communication during the consultation and treatment process, it also allows you to see exactly what we see. In so doing, our iTero eliminates any mystery or mistrust and replaces them with complete confidence that you’re only ever getting treatment you actually need.

At the same time as it's scanning your teeth and gums, our iTero uses an infra-red light to detect very early decay between your teeth before its ever visible on x-rays. By virtue of this incredibly early detection, we can implement preventive measures that can reverse the damage and thereby eliminate the need for treating these lesions with fillings.

Last but by no means least, our iTero empowers us to very accurately monitor changes in your smile over time. So if you're worried that your gums may be receding or that your teeth may be wearing away or moving, we can now tell you with crystal-clear certainty whether these conditions are stable or if they're getting worse. And if they are getting worse we'll give you strategies to stop or even reverse that damage way earlier than we ever could before.

As you can see, our iTero is an incredibly powerful tool that transforms the way we diagnose and deal with dental disease. Which is why we routinely take a full mouth digital scan of every single one of our patients during their comprehensive new patient exam.

Digital Screens

Further facilitating your ability to see what we see (without squinting your eyes or straining your neck) and in turn have a crystal-clear picture of the state of your mouth, every one of our four surgeries along with our photo studio are equiped with large-screen displays.

It may not seem like a big deal, but when you have a deeper understanding of your health you make better-informed decisions about your care which in turn facilitates better treatment outcomes.

Four-Handed Dentistry Facilitation

One of my roles as a dental officer at Sydney's Westmead Hospital was training dentists and dental assistants how to perform 4-handed dentistry properly. Now in case you've never heard of 4-handed dentistry, in essence it's an advanced way of dentists and dental assistants working together that facilitates a smoother and more efficient delivery of dental care. For you, that means less time in the chair experiencing greater comfort.

So when we designed Hoki Dental, central to our vision was to create surgeries that fully facilitate four-handed dentistry.

One critical design feature for supporting 4-handed dentistry is to the absence of a spit bowl. While the elimination of spit-bowls allows our dental assistants to properly position themselves where they need to be to perform their duties with maximum efficiency, it also eliminates a nasty source of potential cross-infection between patients.

In a time where we're all sensitive to sources of infection, not having a spit-bowl is a big step towards protecting your well-being.  Another added benefit is that the absence of spit-bowls facilitates easier access into and out of our dental chairs for those who walkers or are in wheel-chairs.

The other critical 4-handed dentistry design feature is our mobile trolley. Now don't be fooled by its deceptive simplicity. These ingenious units conceal some remarkable engineering. Now as much as I'd love to show you all its features, arguably its greatest benefit to you are its infection-preventing properties. By storing our supplies within arms reach yet keeping them in covered drawers protected from potentially infectious aerosols, our mobile trolleys minimise the risk of our dental assistants having to rummage through containers with dirty gloves.

In simple terms, our mobile trolleys give you the peace of mind that the materials and supplies we use during your treatment are safe and clean.

3D-Printer

Hiding in the back of our studio is our leading-edge 3D printer. This fascinating technology expands the power of our iTero intra-oral scanner to another level, empowering us to harness more advanced digital workflows which in turn facilitate faster, more accurate and more efficient patient services.

In a nutshell, this equates to shorter treatment times and fewer appointments for you.

Steri-Room

Without question, the heart of our dental studio that keeps everything humming is our state-of-the-art sterilisation room. Designed by Australasia's  most respected infection-control expert to be optimally clean and efficient, we're extremely proud of our steri-room's design features and procedures that ensure your safety and wellbeing.

Enhancing this level of protection is our dedicated sterilisation nurse who ensures our clinical dental assistants aren't being contaminated by other patient's dirty instruments.

CIMR Units

Of everything we do to minimise our patients' risk of infection, the one we’re most proud of is our CIMR Technology.

So what is CIMR technology?

In simple terms… it’s a pathogen-killing mist!

Using a revolutionary patented technology, our CIMR units produce a continuous stream of charged hydrogen-peroxide molecules into our ventilated air! These molecules kill bacteria and neutralise viruses on contact. This includes all Corona virus variants!

Unlike traditional air-filtration systems that wait for pathogen-infected air to pass through their filters, our CIMR units preemptively direct tiny charged hydrogen-peroxide molecules to seek and destroy 99.9% of all moulds, bacteria and viruses - even the ones trying to hide in cracks and crevices.

In short, our system kills all nasties at their source!

Put another way, with any air filtration unit, as soon as someone walks into a room, that person will immediately contaminate the room.

However, with our hydrogen-peroxide units, as soon as you enter our practice, our building will effectively “de-contaminate” you!

We’ve invested significant capital to instal a pair of CIMR units and we’re proud to say that we’re one of only two business in all of New Zealand harnessing this technology!

So no matter where you are in our practice, knowing that we don’t have any active pathogens floating in our air or lurking on our surfaces, you can breathe easy!

EMS Airflow

Gone are the days of having to endure your teeth being blasted with cold water and rattled with mini jack-hammers.

Our state-of-the-art EMS Airflow uses revolutionary technology to safely, gently and effectively remove harmful bacteria in your mouth faster, more comfortably and more efficiently than traditional tooth-cleaning methods.

Using a gentle stream of soothing warm water, fine powder and air, our Airflow is the gold standard of care if you suffer sensitive teeth, if you have implants or bridges of if your teeth are being straightened with braces or Invisalign.

Simply put, it’s like a spa experience for your teeth. Our Airflow will change the way you feel about dental hygiene and your teeth will feel the cleanest they've ever been!

100% Earthquake Compliance

Being a new building, our studio's compliance with NZ earthquake standards is 100%

While we all hope we'll never need it, if ever you happen to be in our studio if/when the big one hits, you can rest assured that our building has been built to the highest standards to protect you.
