Total Smile Rejuvenation

If you're suffering from missing, crooked and/or broken down teeth and you'd love to smile with confidence and chew with comfort, I encourage you to read every word on this page.

What you're about to discover has the potential to literally transform your life.

Now before we go any further, right up front, I want to assure you that no matter what state your mouth is currently in, we will always treat you with the utmost empathy and respect. No judgement. No put-downs. No snide remarks. Our role is to support you, not belittle or berate you.

With that said, I'd like to walk you through the process of rejuvenating your smile in a way that's easy to understand and helps you safely navigate this potentially overwhelming journey.

The best way I know to convey the critical steps of a comprehensive smile makeover is to compare it to building your dream home.

As you can appreciate, building your dream home is costly, it's time-consuming and it's something you have to live with for the rest of your life.

You only get one shot at this which is why you definitely want to get it right the first time.

The exact same can be said for your smile makeover.

So imagine if you went up to a builder and you said to them, "Build me my dream home."

That's ridiculous, right? You'd never do that.

Rather, you'd approach an architect.

They'd then survey your building site before presenting you with a concept design that factors in your wishes as well as the surrounding landscape.

Taking your input on board, they'd then create a virtual walk-through of your dream home so you could get a sense of how it'll look and function.

Only once you're completely happy with this design (including budget, time frames and materials) will the architect draw up your definitive blueprints.

Then, once all the consents have been approved, next step is to lay the foundations.

Finally, after the foundations are complete, then and only then do you actually start building your dream home.

And that all makes sense, right? It's a logical way to sequence the project to ensure you get to enjoy the home of your dreams.

Keeping this framework in mind, let's now explore your smile rejuvenation journey, one step at a time.

Phase 1: Smile Digitisation
The first step to your new smile always begins with smile digitisation.

In essence, at our first appointment I'll collect a set of digital records that effectively create a 3D digital model of your smile and supporting structures. These records include a 3D mini-CAT scan of your jaws, a 3D optical scan of your teeth and gums, a set of portrait images and a video of your lips in motion.

However, before I start capturing these records, I'll do something else that's pivotal to your satisfaction with your end result - I'll listen intently to your thoughts and feelings towards your smile along with your hopes and aspirations for your new smile. After all, this is your new smile and we need to tailor its design to your    wishes.

Phase 2: Facially Driven Smile Design
Following your first visit, I'll share your digital records with our specialist team of facially-driven smile designers in Madrid.

After the DSD team in Madrid merges these records into one 3D record of your face and smile, together, we analyse key landmarks on your face to guide the design of a smile that's in complete balance with your face.
This process begins with setting your two top front teeth precisely where they're in complete harmony with your lips, eyes and overall face. We then build-out your upper smile using tooth shapes/sizes/positions and gum-contours that balance with your facial features before finally designing your bottom teeth to harmonise with your ideal upper smile design.

At the end of this process, we'll have a 3D model of your ideal smile.

Phase 3: Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan

Once our team of smile architects have designed your ideal smile, I'll get on a live Zoom call with a team of specialists both here and in Madrid. The make-up of these specialists is determined by your specific clinical needs. It may include up to two implant surgeons, a periodontist, an orthodontist, and a prosthodontist.

For almost an hour we'll methodically analyse your digital records to identify all potential biological treatment constraints before collaboratively brainstorming effective strategies designed to overcome these constraints.

Our focussed goal for this lively session is to formulate a treatment plan that gives you a naturally beautiful, functionally durable smile with maximum predictability and minimal risk.

As this phase takes place behind the scenes, it's to be expected that you may not fully appreciate its value.
However, take it from me, the benefits to you of having a team of world-renowned specialists meticulously planning your care are priceless.

Rather than rely purely on the clinical opinions of my 30 years of experience, you're benefiting from the collaborative insights of a team of specialists (with often over 100 years of combined clinical experience) who each see things that the rest of us don't.

If you're familiar with Napoleon Hill's "power of the mastermind" concept, our live treatment planning sessions are a beautiful example of its phenomenal power in action.

Phase 4: Smile Test-Drive

Once your preliminary treatment plan has been formulated, using our in-house 3D printer, we'll transform the digital file of your 3D design into a set of enamel shells that emulate your ideal smile.

We'll then invite you back into our studio to “test-drive” your ideal smile. This simply involves me clipping-on your enamel shells over the top of your natural teeth (no numbing or drilling required!) before taking you into our photo studio for some "before and after" photos and videos.

In this way, you get to experience both the look and feel of your ideal smile - before any treatment is performed.

What's arguably more important is that your smile test-drive empowers you to give active, meaningful input into the design of your ultimate smile. In this way, our smile test-drive transforms you from a passive recipient into an integral co-author of the smile you'll ultimately wear for the rest of your life.

So if there's anything about your smile-test drive that you're not 100% happy with, now's the time to speak up as we can easily tweak and fine-tune our design to meet your expectations :)

Phase 5: Informed Consent

Once I'm happy that you're happy with our smile design, I'll compile a very detailed treatment consent document that details every phase of your treatment plan including fee estimates, treatment timing, and potential risks.

The objective of this document is to provide you with complete transparency. If there's anything you're not clear about, I will be only too happy to help clarify.

Phase 6: Disease Elimination

Now that all the treatment planning has been completed and you've signed your consent, it's time to start working in your mouth!

As you can imagine, before we can start  rejuvenating your smile it makes sense to first eliminate (or at least minimise) all active disease processes currently present in tour mouth that may undermine the long term outlook of your new smile.

Such disease processes commonly include tooth decay, gum disease, abscesses, grinding, acid erosion and a lack of saliva.

So if any disease processes are currently active in your mouth, we need to address these before any of the restorative work can begin. Naturally, this will have all been detailed in your treatment consent document.

Phase 7: Foundational Alignment

Often times when people have missing, broken down or worn teeth, their teeth will have drifted and become misaligned.

Just as you wouldn't do any renovations on a house with sinking piles without first uprighting those piles, to perform any major restorative work without first aligning your teeth could significantly compromise your smile's aesthetics and durability.

Depending on how well the individual tooth positions in your mouth match-up with the individual tooth positions in your smile design, we may or may not need to align your teeth to their ideal positions.

Phase 8: Foundational Integration

If you're missing any teeth and our plan is to restore them with implants, the time to place them is once your teeth are in their ideal positions.

Up until  recently, if you needed implants, you'd have to see a surgeon in Christchurch. Thankfully, the inconvenience of having to travel over the hill is a thing of the past.

We're privileged to have secured the services of an implant surgeon who travels down to Hokitika from Auckland once a month to place all our implants. And of course, all our implants are placed using Digitally Guided Dentistry.

Phase 9: Functional and Aesthetic Restoration

Now that all your foundational work has been completed, it's time to restore your smile's function and aesthetics.

This is when the magic happens and you get to enjoy the fruits of our combined labours.

Naturally, as we've harnessed the power of Digitally Guided Dentistry, what we planned in your original test drive is what you'll get to enjoy in your final restorations.

That's just one of the benefits of our total smile rejuvenation process - consistency of design over the entire course of treatment.

Phase 10: Maintenance

Having gone to all this effort to transform your smile, it makes sense that we embrace every measure at our disposal to extend the life of your restorations.

To this end, we'll formulate a maintenance program custom-tailored to meet your unique needs.
And that in a nutshell is how we can totally rejuvenate your smile.

As you can appreciate, transforming your smile can be a lengthy journey. However, as you can also appreciate, this is something you definitely don't want to rush.

So if you're suffering from a lack of confidence, discomfort or impaired function from your smile, we'd love to help you on your journey of transformation. Give us a call today to schedule your smile digitisation appointment.
